  4.     In the item about the discovery of the wreck of the Bismarck,
  5. Germany's World War II battleship (WORLD, June 26), you ignored
  6. the short-lived but grisly success of this vessel. Three days
  7. before it was sunk, the Bismarck took on the pride of the British
  8. fleet, the battleships Hood and Prince of Wales. The Hood was
  9. struck by a salvo from the Bismarck and sank like a rock, taking
  10. with it all but three hands. The Bismarck then turned its guns on
  11. the Prince of Wales and damaged it severely. The skirmish resulted
  12. in the deaths of more than 1,400 men.
